Just an old man looking to the sky above
A weary traveler longing for a son
With a barren wife whose bearing years are gone
He heard a voice spoken from Almighty God

Do you see these stars that you gaze upon
Your descendants will outnumber them
And the ground your feet are standing on
It’s yours and your wife is gonna have a son

And he said
Abraham you have my word
I will not break our covenant
Oh Abraham the time will come
Your offspring shall know me as their God

Well time went on and that old man aged
Thought he had to make it happen in his own way
Trying to make sense of what God had said
He found himself in a servant’s bed

When God had sent the promised son
That servant girl and her little one
Were exiled to the wilderness
And Almighty God he appeared to them

And he said
Daughter you have my word
I will not break my promises
Oh daughter you’re not alone
I see you and I see your son

Those two brothers went head to head
Fighting over that inheritance
And that war is still waging on
Taking lives and dropping bombs

But that’s not how the story ends
Cause God will keep his promises
Oh how he loves the both of them
He’ll restore the family of Abraham
